The African Women in Arbitration (AWA) Symposium, scheduled for 8th October 2024, is a gathering of practitioners working across Africa. The theme for this year’s symposium is “Advancing International Arbitration in Africa: Securing African seats and promoting diversity in appointments.” The symposium will be held in person in Kampala, Uganda, and will see a confluence of professionals experienced in African projects interrogate trends in Arbitration across African jurisdictions.
The symposium is supported by leading law firms, expert consultancies, academic institutions, arbitral institutions, and other professional bodies from the continent. The speaker line-up includes some of the most prominent legal and technical professionals in the field and will present networking opportunities with stakeholders from across the continent with sponsors’ exhibition stands permitting direct engagement with delegates.
The symposium features a panel session, covering the current landscape of international arbitration in Africa, strategies for securing African seats in international arbitration tribunals, strategies for promoting diversity and inclusion in arbitration appointments, building capacity and expertise in African arbitration, legal and regulatory frameworks supporting arbitration in Africa, case management and procedural efficiency in African arbitration, the economic impact of strengthening arbitration in Africa, the role of African arbitration centers and institutions, women in arbitration: challenges and successes, arbitration in key sectors: energy, construction, and finance, future trends and innovations in international arbitration.
